Mr. Woodrow W. “Woody” Monn, 83, of 1 Aspen Drive, Mont Alto, PA, died at 12:05 A.M. Saturday, March 9, 2002 in Harrisburg Hospital, Harrisburg, PA. He had been in failing health for the past three weeks and critically ill for the past two weeks. Born August 31, 1918 in the Fox Hill area of Quincy Township, Franklin County, PA, he was the son of the late Irvin and Mollie Melinda (Dull) Monn. He lived all of his life in Quincy Township and Mont Alto. He attended Quincy schools. Mr. Monn served in the U.S. Army during World War II from December 9, 1942 until September 24, 1943. He and his wife of over 60 years, Mrs. Hilda I. (Poper) Monn, were married on November 1, 1941 in Leitersburg, MD. They had lived at their present residence for the past 12 years. Prior to his military service, he worked at Good Lumber in Quincy. After returning from the military, he worked at Wayne Tool in Waynesboro and then Landis Tool Company, Waynesboro for 35 years, retiring in 1980. During the late 1960’s, Mr. Monn was a part-time Mont Alto police officer. After his retirement until the time of his death, he was a custodian at Mont Alto Fire House. Mr. Monn attended Wesley United Methodist Church in Mont Alto. He was a life member of Mont Alto Volunteer Fire Company where he was active in the Fire Police and of Disabled American Veterans, Chambersburg. He was a member of Cumberland Valley Volunteer Firemen’s Association, PA Fire Police Association, and Franklin County Fire Police Association, and an associate member of Fraternal Order of Police. He was also a member of Blue Ridge Sportsmen’s Association, Charles J. Gilliand AmVets Post #172, both of Fairfield, Eagles Club, Inc., William Max McLaughlin VFW Post #695, and Joe Stickell American Legion Post #15, all of Waynesboro, 99th Infantry Division Association, National Rifle Association, and National AARP. He enjoyed hunting, boating, horses, birds, and animals, especially his dog, “Chris”. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mollie M. Finney and Connie Funk, both of Mont Alto; one son, Dennis W. Monn, Mont Alto; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Tressie Green, Waynesboro and Jane Shaffer, Mont Alto; and several nieces and nephews.
